W swojej karierze filmował górników i ich rodziny. Przez wiele lat współpracował z "Nikoforem" kina amatorskiego - Józefem Kłykiem z Pszczyny. Wspólnie zrealizowali kilka śląskich westernów. Jednak Wojciech Wikarek samodzielnie zrealizował wiele ważnych filmów. Trzeba tutaj wymienić m.in. obraz "Inne życie" opowiadający o młodym więźniu obozu w Oświęcimiu, który musiał pracować w krematorium. Jednak najciekawszym filmem autora okazał się obraz zatytułowany "Irek". Film przedstawia sylwetkę jego ojca - Ireneusza Wikarka. Przez wiele lat był on dyrektorem Orkiestry Polskiego Radia w Katowicach. Wojcich Wikarek został nagrodzony na Festiwalu "Wyścig Jaszczurów" za swój film - Jubilatki.
